Audience Consensus
Blue Seed is viewed as a solid, though somewhat dated, 90s anime with a strong blend of action, romance, and supernatural elements. While praised for its character development, story, and music, some find the animation quality, episodic early structure, and tonal inconsistencies to be drawbacks. Overall, fans appreciate the series for its nostalgic value and engaging narrative, but acknowledge its flaws.
Strengths
- Well-developed characters with good growth arcs, especially Momiji.
- Strong story that blends modern Japanese life with ancient legends.
- Memorable soundtrack by Kenji Kawai.
- Satisfying ending that connects well to the overall story.
- Good mix of action, humor, and drama.
Weaknesses
- Dated animation and faded colors.
- Early episodes follow a repetitive 'monster of the week' format.
- Inconsistent tone, shifting between serious and comedic.
- Some find the fan service unnecessary and out of place.
- Pacing issues due to the episodic nature, particularly in the first half.
