The Ghost in the Shell
Synopsis — from MyAnimeList
With the substantial advancement in cybernetic and AI technology in the early 21st century, humans are able to modify their bodies to the limit, making the world nothing like before. In 2029, the Japanese metropolis of Newport City has become a grand stage for criminals who abuse the advanced technology for personal gain and try to attain power over others by any means necessary. After making a name for herself and getting the green light from Public Security, determined Motoko Kusanagi takes charge of a new special forces unit. In these turbulent times, she and her subordinates tackle serious cybercrime cases that ordinary police would have no chance of solving. Although boasting a successful track record so far, Kusanagi and her unit soon learn there may be an elusive mastermind behind the scenes, whose actions further endanger the metropolis' fragile status quo.
