Synopsis
OVAs included in the August and September issues of Comic Bun Bun between 2005 and 2009. In 2005 and 2006, the anime came on VHS tapes. It switched to DVD in 2007.
Audience Consensus
The Gakkou no Kaidan OVAs are a collection of short, spooky Japanese stories that are generally entertaining, though potentially obscure for viewers unfamiliar with Japanese folklore. The animation and character designs are appreciated, but the image quality is lacking. The opening theme is a standout, while the ending theme is considered generic. The planned sequel is mourned by the reviewer.
Strengths
- Good character designs, especially the restyling of Kinjiro.
- OP song ('すぐそばに~another world~' by Lisa Takahashi) is excellent and fits the tone well.
- Stories are entertaining and short.
Weaknesses
- Low image quality due to the age and format of the releases.
- Some voice acting can be grating.
- ED song is generic and doesn't fit the horror theme.
- Stories are very Japanese-centric and may be difficult to understand without cultural knowledge.
