Synopsis — from MyAnimeList
OVA released with the 9th volume of the manga. The day when Tsubaki goes to the summer festival with Ueno, Oka, and Urabe.
Audience Consensus
The OVA is seen as a generally satisfying, if unexceptional, continuation for fans of the original series, offering more of the unique romance and mystery. While some praise its faithfulness to the source and nostalgic feel, others find the supernatural elements and the series' signature 'drool' aspect to be off-putting and the plot progression to be minimal.
Strengths
- Maintains the unique charm and intriguing storyline of the main series.
- Art style and animation stay true to the original, with a distinct, somewhat nostalgic feel.
- Characters remain well-developed, and their interactions are authentic and engaging.
- Provides additional depth to the characters' relationship.
- Satisfying epilogue for fans of the original series.
- Cameo from another series (Discommunication - Spirit World) was interesting and appreciated.
- Fanservice was not excessive and did not distract from the story.
Weaknesses
- Lacks flavor and adds nothing new, just a typical and cliched summer festival episode.
- Relationship progression seems to be going nowhere.
- The supernatural phenomenon felt slightly out of place and goes beyond the strange nature of the drool.
- The relationship pay-off in the OVA didn't seem as important as others in the show.
- The drool/saliva swapping aspect is off-putting and makes the series disgusting for some viewers.
- Urabe's voice acting lacked a certain teenage girl quality for some viewers.
