Synopsis

Based on a manga by Mitsunaga Yasunori, serialised in Monthly Shounen Sirius. Hiyorimi Hiro moves to a new city to live with his older sister, but dies before he can find her. He then awakens to a new life as a servant of a Princess of the Monster Realm, who just happens to be employing his sister. Monsters soon appear to attack or pester the princess since she is in line for the royal throne, and Hiro must protect her with his life (and repeated deaths). (Soure: ANN)

Audience Consensus

The OVA is viewed as a remake with some improvements over the original anime, mainly a greater focus on the princess and added content. However, the episodic nature and lack of narrative cohesion are criticized, alongside some aspects of the artwork. Overall, the audience seems mildly appreciative, favoring the OVA over the parent anime for its added elements, but acknowledging its shortcomings.

Strengths

  • OVA has more focus on Hime and her siblings.
  • Includes content not present in the parent anime (panty scenes).
  • Maintains horror, comedy, action, and supernatural elements.

Weaknesses

  • Random episodic stories lack connection.
  • Monsters appear and disappear without consequence.
  • Artwork may not be up to par with the main anime (character faces appear longer).
  • Hiro's lack of impactful power diminishes the story.
