Audience Consensus

Edokko Boy: Gatten Tasuke is a generally well-received comedic anime that blends historical Japan with science fiction elements. While the show has its flaws, such as pacing issues in early episodes and abrupt ending, it is still considered enjoyable for those who appreciate old-school anime and the unique setting. The voice acting, music, and visual style are praised, contributing to its overall positive reception.

Strengths

  • Catchy opening song and appropriate music/sound effects.
  • Well-done voice acting.
  • Nicely looking anime for its period, improving visually in later episodes.
  • Creative mix of old Japan and science fiction elements.

Weaknesses

  • Early episodes can be slow paced with boring camera angles and static scenes.
  • Humor relies on old Japanese words and juvenile slapstick, potentially difficult to understand.
  • Show ends abruptly at 22 episodes, leaving many topics unexplored.
  • Simplification of character details in some scenes (e.g., Tasuke's feet).
