Synopsis — from MyAnimeList
Kazuki Tsukigase is a high school boy who carries a certain secret. In search of a place where no one knows him, he enrolls at Sakijima High School on a remote island. On Sakijima, there is a place known as the "Cove of Spiriting Away." One early summer day, Kazuki finds a girl lying unconscious in the cove. The girl—Nanao, 16 years old—later regains consciousness in the hospital, but her identity remains unknown. What is the meaning behind the word "1974" that she murmured? A touching boy-meets-girl story.
Audience Consensus
Audience reception is split, with some appreciating the exploration of deeper themes and the charming romance, while others find the central time-travel mechanic to be a narrative weakness that detracts from the overall story.
Strengths
- Explores interesting themes like cancel culture and societal curses.
- Good side cast contributes to a strong sense of community.
Weaknesses
- Time travel element feels forced and underdeveloped, serving only to lengthen the romance.
- The core narrative relies too heavily on a time-travel gimmick without fully integrating it.
