Onegai AiPri
Synopsis — from MyAnimeList
The new anime's story centers on Konomi Inori, a first year middle school student who just moved to the town of Onegai. At the town's plaza, Konomi prayed to the goddess statue to give her a chance to be an AiPri. After she prayed, she accidentally meets the famous AiPri Aoi Yumemiya and a mysterious talking stuffed toy with her named Fortu. It turns out that Fortu is looking for an AiPri who can make their wish come true, and when Konomi opened the special mirror pact that Aoi handed her, she gets the AiPri debut that she prayed for.
Audience Consensus
Audience reception for Onegai AiPri is moderately positive, with appreciation for improved character designs, music, and a flexible wish-granting premise. However, significant criticisms are leveled against the show's weak storytelling and low-quality animation, which detract from its potential.
Strengths
- Improved character designs are more appealing and balanced in color.
- The baseline personalities of some characters (Olivia, Ojou-sama, Ema) are more interesting and show potential for great story moments.
- The premise of granting wishes is flexible and allows for teaching lessons and character development.
- Songs are great, continuing the theme of excellent music from the original.
- CGI quality seems to have improved.
Weaknesses
- The team seems disinterested in writing an actual story, prioritizing songs over engaging narrative.
- The amount of time dedicated to songs detracts from developing the characters and story.
- The animation budget appears low, resulting in stiff animation and reliance on backgrounds.
- The show feels like a slightly more enjoyable version of the original, maintaining similar flaws.
