The World's Strongest Rearguard
Synopsis — from MyAnimeList
After dying in a bus accident, overworked salaryman Arihito Atobe awakens in Labyrinth Country, where newcomers become Seekers by choosing their own job classes. Hoping for a peaceful second life, he instead finds himself saddled with an unprecedented Rearguard class whose true identity cannot even be deciphered by the Seekers Guild. As Atobe assembles a party and ventures into the country's labyrinths, he gradually discovers that his mysterious abilities possess extraordinary support capabilities. Yet with neither allies nor enemies able to understand the full nature of his class, mastering its hidden potential may prove to be his greatest challenge.
Audience Consensus
The audience is largely in agreement that this is a poorly executed Isekai-harem anime, plagued by terrible writing, bland characters, and abysmal production values. While a small contingent finds some 'dumb fun' in its generic tropes, the overwhelming sentiment is disappointment and criticism, with many advising viewers to avoid it entirely.
Strengths
- Voice actors did a decent job
- Pacing is passable
- Moves at a good pace, doesn't stop, doesn't seek to overcomplicate things or trip over itself with boring plotlines, needless exposition dumps or trying too hard. Knows what it is, doesn't take itself seriously and just wants to have fun.
Weaknesses
- Relies on poorly executed video game mechanics.
- Ill-defined and bland characters.
- Plot is shallow and focused on undeserved harem dynamics.
- Writing is terrible, lazy, and relies on cheap tropes.
- Inconsistent and abstract 'creation' of classes leads to plot armor.
- Overly explanatory exposition dumps ruin immersion.
- Animation quality is abysmal, feels like a slideshow with barely any fluid animation.
- Sound design is poor, with terrible music playing at inappropriate times, especially during fights.
- Sexual jokes and fan service are cringeworthy and poorly handled.
- World-building makes no sense, with illogical elements like respawn queues and lack of innovation from reincarnated individuals.
