Audience Consensus
Audience opinion is moderately divided, largely due to the OVA's perceived failure as an adaptation of the manga. While the unique character concepts and action are appreciated by some, many critics point to significant flaws in animation, storytelling, and overall execution that leave the series feeling incomplete and lacking the charm of its source material.
Strengths
- Unique and interesting character concepts
- Action sequences are entertaining and fun to watch (despite animation flaws)
- Distinct personalities and appearances of characters
- Good pacing for short episodes, never feels rushed
- Voice acting (specifically Akira Ishida as Badou) is a highlight
Weaknesses
- Animation quality is low, especially in long/mid-range shots and facial expressions
- Story feels disjointed and lacks depth, often feeling like an introduction to something more
- Humor and character charm from the manga are lost in translation to anime
- Action scenes lack visual impact and can be unrealistic/unimpressive compared to the manga
- Sound design issues like audio delay and unbalanced volumes
- Overall feeling of incompleteness and lack of substance as a standalone series
