Synopsis

With the help of producer Masaya Kaburagi, Aquamarine "Aqua" Hoshino and Kana Arima have landed the roles of Touki and Tsurugi in Lala Lai Theatrical Company's stage adaptation of the popular manga series Tokyo Blade. Co-starring with them is Aqua's girlfriend, Akane Kurokawa, who plays Touki's fiancée, Princess Saya. Due to the fanbase preferring Tsurugi as Touki's love interest, Saya has made fewer and fewer appearances in the manga, making it difficult for Akane to fully immerse herself in the role. Her struggles are compounded by differences between the play's script and the original work—differences that also frustrate Tokyo Blade's author, Abiko Samejima. Aqua, however, is more concerned with his personal goals than he is with the play. He has only one objective in mind: to grow closer to director Toshirou Kindaichi and find out what he knows about Aqua's mother, Ai. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Audience Consensus

Season 2 of Oshi no Ko is a mixed bag, with some viewers finding it a major improvement over season 1 due to its character development and exploration of the entertainment industry, while others criticize its pacing, forced plot elements, and dialogue. The theater arc received mixed reactions, with some appreciating its depth and others finding it too long and generic. Overall, the season maintains the show's unique charm but falls short of delivering a consistently engaging experience for all viewers.

Strengths

  • Exploration of the entertainment industry, especially the theater world and manga adaptations.
  • Strong character development, particularly for Kana, Akane and Ruby.
  • High-quality animation and art direction, with creative visual experiments.
  • Engaging exploration of characters' internal struggles and motivations.
  • Compelling soundtrack and OST.
  • Intriguing plot twists and reveals, especially for those who haven't read the manga.

Weaknesses

  • Pacing issues, particularly in the first half of the season and the length of the theater arc.
  • Forced revenge plot that feels inconsistent with the rest of the story.
  • Dialogue and some characters are seen as cartoonish or unrealistic.
  • Oversimplification of some aspects of the entertainment industry.
  • Focus on the stage play feels like a generic showbiz anime at times.
  • Ending feeling disjointed from the overall story.
