Synopsis

After her boyfriend breaks up with her for another girl, college student Akane Kinoshita wrestles with a broken heart and the memories he left behind. Loading up Forest of Savior, the MMO they used to play together, she forms a plan to get back at her ex-boyfriend through an in-person event for the game. In the process, she runs into someone unexpected: Akito Yamada, a gaming legend who just happens to be her guildmate. Desperate for support, Akane ropes the asocial Yamada into helping with her scheme and lending her a shoulder to cry on. The differences between Akane and Yamada soon become apparent as they spend time together, yet they cannot help but notice each other's inner qualities. As the two gain more experience with one another in and out of the game, their tentative acquaintance may level up in a way neither expects. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Audience Consensus

Audience opinions are divided, with some enjoying the show's art, music, and shoujo romance elements, while others criticize its slow pace, underutilized gaming theme, and reliance on character tropes. Many find the plot generic and the characters underdeveloped, particularly disliking the emphasis on physical attractiveness over personality. Overall, the anime is seen as a visually appealing but ultimately bland romance that doesn't fully utilize its potential.

Strengths

  • Attractive art style and animation quality, especially the shoujo-esque aesthetic.
  • Catchy and upbeat opening and ending themes that fit the show's atmosphere.
  • Enjoyable for fans of shoujo romance, with focus on tender moments and gradual relationship development.
  • Some find the characters relatable and well-developed, appreciating Akane's mature portrayal.

Weaknesses

  • Slow pacing that can make the anime feel uneventful and reliant on internal monologues.
  • Underutilization of the video game aspect, serving more as a backdrop than an integral part of the story.
  • Characters, especially the protagonists, can feel flat, dull, and lacking depth, relying on common tropes.
  • Overemphasis on Yamada's attractiveness at the expense of his personality, making him feel vapid.
  • Inconsistent visual quality with noticeable dips in art and animation in some scenes.
  • Predictable and generic romance story with little in the way of unique twists.
