Audience Consensus

Kemono Friends 2 is largely considered a disappointing sequel that fails to capture the magic of the original. Fans express strong disappointment with the derivative plot, weak characters, and the loss of the original's deeper themes. The controversy surrounding the removal of the original director further fuels the negative reception, although some appreciate the improved animation.

Strengths

  • Improved animation and character models compared to the first season.
  • The music, largely reused from the first season, is still enjoyable.
  • Some find the new characters charming, despite their weak arcs.

Weaknesses

  • Story heavily copies the original season, lacking originality and impact.
  • Characters, especially Kyururu, are bland and underdeveloped compared to Kaban.
  • Loss of mystery and darker themes, replaced with a simplistic, childish tone.
  • Poor character writing, including Serval's character being mishandled.
  • Plot holes and unanswered questions make the story unsatisfying.
  • Many feel the series was made without the original team's heart and vision.
