Haven't You Heard? I Was Sakamoto
Synopsis — from MyAnimeList
Sakamoto has it all: he is handsome, he excels at his studies, and there is no situation he cannot handle with style. Not having lost their admiration for him, Sakamoto's former classmates recall the days when he graced the halls of their school before moving to America. As they imagine his life abroad, they figure that there is only one place suitable for their perfect friend—NASA. It seems that even in his absence, Sakamoto continues to enchant all who were lucky enough to meet him.
Audience Consensus
The audience is largely disappointed with this OVA, viewing it as a poorly executed compilation of old scenes with new, nonsensical, and offensive content. While some appreciate the continuation of the art and the nostalgic feel, the overwhelming sentiment is that the OVA fails to live up to the main series and actively detracts from its potential depth by contradicting its ending.
Strengths
- Maintains the art and sound quality of the original series.
- Effectively conveys the side characters' admiration for Sakamoto.
- Offers a nostalgic viewing experience for fans of the main series.
Weaknesses
- Primarily composed of recycled scenes and compilations from previous episodes.
- Lacks the humor and originality of the main series.
- The new content, particularly the depiction of life at NASA, is considered annoying, nonsensical, and relies heavily on poor Engrish and racial stereotypes.
- The OVA contradicts the potential darker, more meaningful ending of the main series, which is seen as a significant detractor.
- Shows a clear lack of effort and is described as unwatchable and abominable by some viewers.
