This special will have the Straw Hats fight Foxy again in the New World on Nebulandia, an island that nullifies Devil Fruit powers.
Audience Consensus
Audience reception is split, with some praising the special for Foxy's improved characterization and the introduction of a strong new villain. However, significant criticism exists regarding plot inconsistencies, particularly concerning Devil Fruit power rules, and a deviation from the advertised premise, leading to disappointment for many.
Strengths
- Foxy's redemption and improved characterization as a dependable ally.
- Introduction of a compelling new antagonist, Komei, with a clear motive and unique utilization.
- Signature One Piece comedy and satisfying final fight.
- Some viewers found the plot twist intriguing and the reunion of the Straw Hat and Foxy pirates enjoyable.
- Good visual production quality, better than average weekly releases.
Weaknesses
- Significant inconsistencies in the depiction of Devil Fruit user weaknesses, particularly regarding seawater and fog.
- The story deviated from the synopsis, failing to deliver a rematch between Luffy and Foxy or focus on an island that nullifies Devil Fruit powers.
- The plot felt predictable and uninspired, with some characters acting out of character (e.g., Zoro and Sanji rendered helpless).
- Animation was described as stiff and lacking fluidity.
- The special felt like filler, lacking the creative and interesting art style variation often seen in One Piece films.
