Synopsis — from MyAnimeList

United Kingdom and America have to put aside their centuries of differences and cooperate if they want to stand a chance against Italy and Germany on the African Front. After being defeated by a questionable border defense system, France swears vengeance on Germany. In another part of the world, the Nordic countries discuss how similar they are to each other, much to Finland's dismay. Meanwhile, Sealand embarks on a very ambitious quest to search for the other micronations after befriending Wy and Seborga.

Audience Consensus

Audience reception for Hetalia: The World Twinkle is mixed, with long-time fans largely finding it a weaker installment. While the voice acting and introduction of new characters like the micronations are praised, many critics point to repetitive humor, noticeable dips in animation quality, and questionable music choices as significant drawbacks. It's generally seen as a passable entry for existing fans but unlikely to attract newcomers.

Strengths

  • Voice actors deliver their best performance.
  • Catchy ending song (Hetalian Jet).
  • Introduction of new countries and characters, particularly the micronations and Nordics, provided a refreshing change.
  • The Russia episode and Micronation arc captured the series' known chaotic energy.
  • WWII Africa snippets and the Nordic country segments were enjoyable historical parodies.

Weaknesses

  • Humor relies heavily on stale cultural quirks, becoming repetitive.
  • Animation quality declined from the previous season, with stiff character movements and off-model moments due to budget constraints.
  • Soundtrack choices were sometimes mismatched, particularly in serious or emotional episodes, detracting from the mood.
  • The 5-minute episode format and attempt to include too many characters led to a scattered feel and sidelined the main cast.
  • The season finale was described as random, unfunny, and lacking humor.
  • The anime adaptation felt surface-level and tamed compared to the manga and older seasons.
