Synopsis

Miura Kyoji, a dedicated kendo student, discovers that his shisho (master) Tate Masanari is a reincarnated Incan warrior named Yawaru who wishes to destroy the world to purify it. Kyoji himself is the warrior Bilka, who foiled Yawaru's plans in their previous lives. Yawaru gathers other awakened spirits to release the powers of nature. Now Kyoji must wrestle with his own fate and decide if he is merely a vessel for the reincarnated soul or if he is truly Miura Kyoji and which will be better able to save the world and the future as he knows it. Audience Consensus

Nazca is a unique but flawed anime with an interesting premise that fails to fully deliver. The series has a number of technical issues, including animation inconsistencies and a poor English dub. While some appreciate the music and the underlying themes, the plot is often confusing and the characters are underdeveloped, leading to a mixed reception.

Strengths

  • Unique premise with reincarnation of Incan warriors
  • Music is remixed Bach, which works incredibly well and gives a grand and serious tone
  • Some genuinely touching moments
  • Interesting plot
  • Good characterization
  • Soundtrack is exotic and harmonious

Weaknesses

  • Mediocre animation
  • Stilted English dub with bored voice acting
  • Poor character designs for Incan flashbacks (skin-tight one pieces)
  • Disjointed plot progression with confusing transitions
  • Weak explanation for setting in Japan
  • Underdeveloped characters and shallow interpersonal relationships
  • Unclear goals of the evil faction and missed opportunity for addressing hypocrisy
  • Inaccurate historically
