Synopsis

Saki Miyanaga, along with the rest of Kiyosumi High School's mahjong team, proceeds to the national level of the Interhigh Mahjong Championship. However, reaching the top will prove difficult as she faces opponents on par with and, quite possibly, exceeding her skills. Even so, she refuses to back down, vowing to stop at nothing to fulfill her goal: to see her sister face-to-face once more. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Audience Consensus

Audience reception is mixed. While many appreciate the improved visuals, intense matches, and character backstories, there's disappointment over the lack of focus on the main characters and incomplete ending. Some viewers also find the assumption of prior mahjong knowledge a barrier to entry. Overall, fans of the first season are likely to enjoy it, but newcomers may struggle to connect with the story.

Strengths

  • Improved visuals and character designs compared to the prequel.
  • Intense mahjong matches with creative strategies and unpredictable outcomes.
  • Well-developed backstories for supporting characters, adding emotional depth.
  • Successfully captures the energy and anticipation of high-stakes competition.

Weaknesses

  • Lack of focus on the main characters, hindering their growth and development.
  • Assumes prior knowledge of mahjong rules, potentially alienating new viewers.
  • Overuse of flashbacks detracts from mahjong gameplay footage.
  • Ending feels incomplete, teasing a continuation that may never happen.
