Audience Consensus
Audience reception is moderately divided, with strong appreciation for the film's stylish action, unique art, and RZA's soundtrack. However, critiques often point to a shallow protagonist and a predictable revenge plot, creating a split between those who value the style and atmosphere over substance and those who desire more robust character development and narrative depth.
Strengths
- Visually striking art style with a dark, moody color palette
- Well-animated and fluid action sequences with interesting camera angles
- Compelling soundtrack by RZA that enhances the futuristic vibe
- Strong voice acting, particularly from Samuel L. Jackson
- Unexpected depth in themes of revenge, burden, and loss
- Vibrant and individually distinct characters, especially Ninja Ninja
- Confident and focused execution that avoids wasting time
Weaknesses
- Art style can be unappealing to some viewers
- Protagonist is too flat and monosyllabic, with limited character development
- Lack of genuine threat or tension due to the protagonist easily defeating enemies
- Bland and cliché plot centered around revenge
- Repetitive enemy characters
- Inconsistent quality of voice acting in the dub, aside from Samuel L. Jackson
