Synopsis

King Alexander of Macedonia and his troops are at war with the armies of Persia. When he suddenly falls ill, Alexander is faced with a decision: to trust his life-long Persian friend Philip and accept his help or treat him as an enemy because he is Persian.

Audience Consensus

The audience finds the OVA to be a decent but not exceptional historical piece. The moral dilemma and historical context are appreciated, but the animation and simple plot are drawbacks. It's mainly recommended for viewers with an existing interest in history, otherwise it may not be particularly engaging.

Strengths

  • Interesting moral dilemma presented
  • Provides a history lesson
  • References historical context (Greco-Buddhist influence on Japan)
  • Highlights Alexander's early life and Aristotle's influence

Weaknesses

  • Story is not very deep or complex
  • Animation is considered creepy and weird
  • May not be interesting to those without a passion for history
